Sherlock
Holmes was a famous fictional detective who was created by Sir Arthur
Conan Doyle. He lived in a flat in Baker Street which he shared with his
assistant, Dr. Watson. Holmes was so good at solving cases that he was
often asked by Inspector Lestrade, who worked for Scotland Yard, to help
him with his
most difficult cases. Together Holmes and Dr. Watson looked for the clues
to the crime and pieced them one by one until they found the criminal.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born in Edinburgh in 1859 and died in 1930. He studied medicine at Edinburgh University where the methods of diagnosis of one of the professors are said to have provided the idea for the methods of deduction used by Sherlock Holmes.
